The Future of Wireless Audio / Headphone 3.0

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Over the past 20 years, Bluetooth has offered and delivered a form of consistency enabling wireless audio connectivity. However, we have reached the point of diminishing returns where Lossless CD quality is just about possible but with the burden of high latency. This workshop will offer up an alternative which will deliver Hi Res (24 bit / 96kHz) Linear PCM at a latency of under 10 milliseconds.

The audio performance is part of Headphone 3.0 which is the "smartification" of wireless headsets and requires a system-based approach that offers up CosmOS (an Operating System for the Ear), UWB radio and appropriate antennas to ensure cross body issues are addressed. In addition to 24/96 Linear PCM, this solution will also be able to address 5.1 with a reverse back-channel for voice.

The use of an OS will deliver run time configurability which for the above examples focusses on audio but can also be used for health and well-being activities. Supporting UWB (Ultra-Wide Band) at 6.5GHz and 8GHz offers up to 10MHz data throughput at low latency suitable for real-time, interactive applications i.e., Gaming. Despite its obvious data and latency advantages, UWB has a weakness i.e., detuning when placed close to a body (either human or otherwise), this workshop in addition to exploring Headphone 3.0 will explain how the system addresses these "Body Blocking" problems which could manifest as audio glitches.
